1. About us
Saltaire Guide (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website at saltaireguide.uk. We are an independent local publication about Saltaire and Shipley, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
For general enquiries, corrections, or legal correspondence, contact us at hello@saltaireguide.uk. Our editorial and publishing policies are set out on separate pages linked from this document.
2. Site content & disclaimers
2.1 General information only
The content on this site — including guides, articles, directory listings, event information, maps, walking routes, parking information, accessibility notes, and historical material — is provided for general informational purposes only. It does not constitute professional advice of any kind, including but not limited to legal, financial, medical, planning, or safety advice.
2.2 Accuracy
We make reasonable efforts to keep information accurate and up to date. However, we cannot guarantee that all content is complete, current, or free from error at all times. Information may change without notice — opening hours shift, routes are diverted, prices change, businesses open and close. You should verify critical details independently before relying on them, particularly where safety, accessibility, cost, or legal matters are involved.
2.3 No endorsement
The inclusion of any business, service, product, organisation, or individual on this site does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation, or guarantee by us. Equally, the absence of any business or service from the site does not imply disapproval. We have no responsibility for the quality, safety, legality, or suitability of any goods or services provided by third parties listed on or linked from this site.
2.4 Historical content
Our history and heritage pages draw on publicly available records, academic sources, local archives, and community knowledge. Historical interpretation involves judgement. We present information in good faith but do not warrant that every historical detail is beyond dispute. If you identify an error, our corrections policy explains how to report it.
3. Walks, routes & outdoor information
3.1 Your responsibility
Walking and outdoor activities carry inherent risks. Conditions change with weather, season, maintenance schedules, and construction work. When we describe a route, distance, surface type, gradient, or accessibility feature, we are reporting what we observed at the time of writing or our most recent check. We cannot guarantee that conditions will be the same when you visit.
3.2 What you should do
- Assess conditions yourself on the day. Our descriptions are a starting point, not a substitute for your own judgement.
- Wear appropriate footwear and clothing. Check the weather forecast before setting out.
- If you have mobility requirements, verify step-free or accessibility information with the relevant authority (e.g. Bradford Council, Canal & River Trust) before planning a journey around it.
- Supervise children and dogs. We note where dogs may need to be on-lead, but local rules and conditions can change.
- Carry a charged phone. Know how to contact emergency services (999 or 112 in the UK).
3.3 Our limits
We are not a safety authority, an access officer, or a qualified outdoor guide. We do not carry out formal risk assessments of the routes we describe. We do not accept liability for injuries, losses, or damages arising from the use of route information, maps, GPX files, or accessibility notes published on this site.
4. Business directory & listings
4.1 Listing accuracy
Our directory contains information about local businesses and services in the Saltaire and Shipley area. Listings may include details such as business name, address, contact information, opening hours, services offered, pricing indications, and user or editorial descriptions. This information is provided in good faith but may be incomplete or outdated. We do not verify every detail of every listing on a continuous basis.
4.2 No professional vetting
Inclusion in the directory does not mean we have vetted, inspected, or approved the business, its qualifications, its insurance, its regulatory compliance, or the quality of its work. Before engaging any tradesperson, service provider, or professional listed on this site, you should carry out your own due diligence — including checking qualifications, insurance, references, and regulatory status (for example, Gas Safe registration for gas engineers, or Part P certification for electricians).
4.3 Business-submitted information
Some listing details are submitted or claimed by the business itself. Where a business has claimed its listing, it is responsible for the accuracy of the information it provides. We are not liable for inaccuracies, misrepresentations, or omissions in business-submitted content.
4.4 Reviews and ratings
Where user reviews or ratings appear on a listing, they reflect the views of individual users, not of Saltaire Guide. We do not verify the identity of reviewers or the accuracy of their accounts. We reserve the right to moderate, edit, or remove reviews that violate these terms or our community conduct rules.
4.5 Featured and priority listings
Some businesses pay for enhanced placement (e.g. “Featured” badges, priority ordering). These are labelled. Payment for enhanced placement does not alter our independent editorial coverage or constitute endorsement. See our editorial policy for how we handle commercial content.
5. User accounts
5.1 Registration
Some features (saving listings, posting to the community, claiming a business) require a user account. You must provide accurate information when registering. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
5.2 Age
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these terms on your behalf.
5.3 Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms, engaged in prohibited conduct (see section 7), or if your account poses a security risk. You may delete your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us.
5.4 Effect of termination
On termination, your right to use account-specific features ends immediately. Content you have submitted (e.g. reviews, community posts, photos) may remain published where it forms part of the public record, subject to our moderation policies and your rights under data protection law. You may request deletion of personal data under our privacy policy.
6. Your content & submissions
6.1 What this covers
“Your content” means anything you submit to or through this site, including but not limited to: photographs, written contributions, route corrections, tips, community posts, reviews, business listing information, stories, and correspondence sent via our contact or corrections forms.
6.2 Licence you grant us
By submitting content to this site, you grant Saltaire Guide a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, publish, display, distribute, and create derivative works from that content, in any media or format now known or later developed, for the purposes of operating, promoting, and improving the site and our related publications.
You retain ownership of your content. This licence does not transfer ownership to us. It allows us to publish and use your contribution without needing to seek permission each time — for example, if you submit a photo that we use in a guide, a social media post, or a printed leaflet.
6.3 Your warranties
By submitting content, you represent and warrant that:
- You own the content or have all necessary rights, licences, and permissions to submit it and to grant the licence in section 6.2.
- The content does not infringe the intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or any other rights of any third party.
- The content is not defamatory, obscene, threatening, abusive, hateful, or otherwise unlawful.
- The content does not contain viruses, malware, or other harmful code.
- If the content includes photographs of identifiable individuals, you have their consent (or, for children under 18, the consent of a parent or guardian).
6.4 Removal
We may remove, edit, or decline to publish any submitted content at our sole discretion, without notice or explanation. We are not obliged to publish, store, or return any content you submit. If you wish to request removal of content you have submitted, contact us — we will consider requests on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the public interest, editorial integrity, and any applicable legal obligations.
6.5 Moral rights
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you waive any moral rights you may have in content you submit to us (including under Chapter IV of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988), to the extent necessary for us to exercise the licence in section 6.2. Where attribution is reasonably practicable and you have requested it, we will make reasonable efforts to credit you.
6.6 No compensation
Unless we have entered into a separate written agreement with you, you will receive no compensation, payment, or royalty for any content you submit, regardless of how we use it.
7. Community conduct
7.1 Expected behaviour
Community features (posts, replies, reviews, tips) are intended for constructive, on-topic discussion about Saltaire, Shipley, and the surrounding area. We expect users to be respectful, honest, and considerate of others.
7.2 Prohibited conduct
You must not use the site to:
- Post content that is defamatory, harassing, threatening, discriminatory, or incites violence or hatred.
- Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.
- Post fake reviews, misleading business information, or astroturfed endorsements.
- Spam, advertise, or solicit business outside of legitimate directory and listing features.
- Scrape, harvest, or systematically collect data from the site by automated means without our written permission.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site, other user accounts, or our systems.
- Upload or transmit viruses, malware, or other harmful code.
- Interfere with or disrupt the site or the servers or networks connected to it.
- Use the site in any way that violates applicable law or regulation.
7.3 Moderation
We moderate content at our discretion. We are not obliged to monitor all user content, but we reserve the right to review, edit, move, or remove any content that violates these terms. Repeated or serious violations may result in account suspension or permanent ban.
7.4 Reporting
If you encounter content that violates these terms, please report it via our contact page or email hello@saltaireguide.uk with “Report” in the subject line. Include the URL and a brief description of the concern.
8. Intellectual property
8.1 Our content
Unless otherwise stated, all text, images, graphics, maps, logos, page designs, code, and other material on this site (“our content”) is owned by or licensed to Saltaire Guide and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws of England and Wales and international treaties.
8.2 Permitted use
You may view, download, and print pages from this site for your own personal, non-commercial use, provided you do not modify the content and you retain all copyright and proprietary notices. You may quote short extracts for the purposes of criticism, review, or news reporting, with clear attribution and a link to the source page, in accordance with fair dealing under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.
8.3 Prohibited use
Without our prior written consent, you must not:
- Republish, redistribute, or commercially exploit our content (in whole or in substantial part).
- Use our content to train, fine-tune, or build datasets for machine learning or artificial intelligence systems.
- Frame or embed our pages on another website.
- Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or attribution notices.
- Use our brand name, logos, or trademarks in a way that implies endorsement or affiliation.
For media, syndication, or licensing enquiries, contact hello@saltaireguide.uk.
8.4 Copyright complaints
If you believe that content on this site infringes your copyright, please contact us with: a description of the copyrighted work, the URL of the allegedly infringing page, your contact details, and a statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorised. We will investigate promptly.
9. Third-party links
This site contains links to third-party websites, services, and resources. We provide these for convenience and information. We do not control, endorse, or accept responsibility for the content, privacy practices, or availability of any third-party site. Your use of third-party sites is at your own risk and subject to their own terms and policies.
11. Limitation of liability
11.1 No warranties
This site and all content on it are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or non-infringement.
11.2 Exclusion of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Saltaire Guide, its owner, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Personal injury, loss, or damage arising from the use of walking route information, maps, GPX files, or accessibility descriptions published on this site.
- Loss, damage, or expense arising from engaging any business, tradesperson, or service provider listed in our directory, whether or not such listing was a free, featured, or premium placement.
- Financial loss arising from reliance on pricing, availability, opening hours, or other commercial information published on or linked from this site.
- Loss or damage arising from events, activities, or venues mentioned or promoted on this site.
- Loss or corruption of data, or damage to your device, arising from your use of the site or any content downloaded from it.
- Any loss arising from the unavailability, interruption, or malfunction of the site.
- Any loss arising from unauthorised access to or alteration of your transmissions or data.
11.3 Statutory rights
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under English law. These terms do not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.
11.4 Maximum liability
If, notwithstanding the above, we are found liable to you for any cause whatsoever, our total aggregate liability shall be limited to the greater of (a) the amount you have paid to us (if any) in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred pounds sterling (£100).
11.5 Basis of the bargain
You acknowledge that we provide this site free of charge to most users and that the limitations and exclusions in this section reflect a reasonable allocation of risk. These limitations are an essential element of the basis of the bargain between you and us.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Saltaire Guide, its owner, contributors, and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
- Your breach of these terms.
- Content you submit to the site.
- Your use of the site in a manner not authorised by these terms.
- Your violation of any applicable law or regulation.
- Any claim by a third party that content you submitted infringes their rights.
13. Governing law & dispute resolution
13.1 Governing law
These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter (including non-contractual disputes or claims), shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
13.2 Jurisdiction
The courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another part of the United Kingdom, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of that jurisdiction.
13.3 Informal resolution
Before initiating formal proceedings, we encourage you to contact us to attempt to resolve the dispute informally. Most concerns can be addressed through our corrections policy or by emailing hello@saltaireguide.uk. We aim to respond within 5 working days to any legal or dispute-related correspondence.
14. General provisions
14.1 Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when the current version took effect. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. For material changes that significantly affect your rights, we will make reasonable efforts to provide notice (for example, via a banner on the site or an email to registered users).
14.2 Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if modification is not possible. The remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
14.3 Waiver
No failure or delay by us in exercising any right under these terms shall operate as a waiver of that right. A single or partial exercise of any right shall not prevent further exercise of that or any other right.
14.4 Entire agreement
These terms, together with our privacy policy, editorial policy, and corrections policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of this site. They supersede any prior agreements, communications, or understandings relating to your use of the site.
14.5 Assignment
You may not assign or transfer any of your rights or obligations under these terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations under these terms to a successor or affiliate without notice.
14.6 Third-party rights
These terms do not confer any rights on any third party under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 or otherwise, except where expressly stated.
